I am frequently asked about vitamins and whether they are worth taking or not. After all, do they really work?
Vitamins are micro nutrients that act as catalysts for enzymatic reactions in our body necessary for life. So, they are important. You should be able to get all or most of what you need from the food that you eat. Unfortunately, we don’t always eat completely balanced meals every day.
I like to think of my multivitamin, multi-mineral (you need minerals too) supplement as nutritional insurance. I don’t always get my full complement of fruits and veggies every day and I occasionally miss a meal. Then there is the problem of the food supply and its nutrient quality. Sometimes, it is hard to get whole, fresh food right from the farm.
My goal is to have full tissue saturation of all the micronutrients all of the time. This way they are available in my body whenever my body needs them. The only way to accomplish this is to take a daily multivitamin, multi-mineral along with my normal dietary behaviors.
If you have difficulty growing fingernails or your hair is falling out you probably have a vitamin, mineral deficiency and taking a multivitamin supplement might help. Remember, they don’t do any good in the bottle. It is not enough to just buy them: you HAVE to eat them!
